Why a Scholarship, and what is it?

Austin was a mechanical engineer who was passionate about helping people. He was a lifelong learner and was a proud graduate of Francis College of Engineering at UMass Lowell.

Austin’s family has committed $40,000 to establish the Austin Dadmun Endowed Scholarship, which in keeping with Austin’s spirit, will have its earnings distributed annually to provide financial aid to a student in the Francis College, with a preference for students majoring in mechanical engineering.

This endowed scholarship, in Austin’s memory, is a permanent fund where principal donations are invested and managed by the university, with portions of the generated investment earnings distributed to help fund student scholarships each year to honor Austin’s memory by helping others pursue their education as engineers.

Original contributions are preserved, only earnings on principal are generally distributed, and additional donations can be made at any time from any source to help increase the amount of earnings that can further be distributed.

In this way, Austin’s family hopes to memorialize Austin’s legacy, and to show the world that a light can always be kindled in darkness through action and generosity for the future.
